Jupiters Hotel & Casino in Queensland

Jupiters Hotel & Casino was the first casino to be built in Queensland and is located in the suburb of Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. The Australian casino and hotel underwent a large-scale renovation in 2006 that cost over $50 million, which doubled the amount of gaming space and saw the addition of a new restaurant and two new bars; its 442 hotel rooms received a complete renovation as well in 2008.

Its Jupiters Theatre holds more than 1,000 seats and has played host to concerts from performers such as Mother Africa, ABBA Revival, Dance of Desire, and STOMP; the current renovation project would also expand the range of acts and performers expected to perform at the casino’s theatre. One per cent of the casino’s gross gaming revenue goes into the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund, which supports non-profit community based groups and is administered by the government of Queensland.

As far as gaming options, Jupiters Hotel & Casino has more than 1,400 slot machines (or “pokies” in the local language) as well as over 70 table games for blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and craps fans. The casino also operates a poker room that offers daily cash games and poker tournaments, serving as the host for several large tournaments including stops on PokerStars’ Australia New Zealand Poker Tour. Trip packages for PokerStars’ live tournaments can be won at casinos online, giving players the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to try their luck at the poker tables.

In late 2010 it was announced that the casino would undergo a much more massive $350 million overhaul in a move to transform it more into a Vegas-style resort destination. The plan includes adding a new 5-star boutique hotel, up to eight new restaurants and bars, an indoor-outdoor venue with cabanas and pools, and expanded ballroom and conferencing facilities.
