Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls
Take the Zambezi, one of the largest rivers of South Africa. Dropped on the flood plains of Angola and Zambia, swelling Cliffstributaries until the river is as big as a race track. Once the channel of water flowing forcefully on the basaltic plains of southern Zambia, the wound cut 1700 feet wide in the valley and see the entire width of the river came wet 180-meter face of the rock in a narrow canyon. This is the Victoria Falls, one of the most monumental waterfalls in the world.
Fall Name, “Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning” thunder smoke. “And indeed, she screams, it’s throwing up spray, accidents and turns – Victoria Falls is an incredible sight, twice the height of the falls Niagara. so spectacular in fact it is already a popular tourist attraction in 1905 when the railway from the then Rhodesia in Cape Town completed under British colonial rule. Now a World Heritage Site, Victoria Falls attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, some not just take in the wonders of nature, others, like me, brave (or foolish) enough to bungee jump over the canyon, too.
While in Zambia on a job assignment, I took the first opportunity to escape the dark capital, Lusaka, and visit the Victoria Falls, a six hours bus ride across the prairie flat dry. In fact, hours of public transport in Africa than they are (“when the full-time” is as close as it gets to the departure time), he took me and my best friend Leila Saturday to reach the city Fallsof Livingstone character, then the park.
We first heard a muffled roar. Then we found the size statue of David Livingstone, Scottish explorer Livingstone-I-wonder fame. As the first European to see the falls in the mid-19th century, he named them in honor of King, Queen Victoria. A little further down the road, we had our first glimpse of the cataract. Extending as far as the eye can see, angry white curtain of water falling down, divided by the rocks protruding from the top of the waterfall. A huge cloud of spray rising from the abyss, to hide the depth of the abyss.
As we walked along the road parallel to the falls and causes a narrow suspension bridge covers the gap, we see that all the people who come to us were soaked. Continuing under the protection of trees, we began to feel fine drops, which, once on deck, turned into a literal rain upside down, spray so thick. “It is smart to rent a raincoat standing there!” Cried Leila, when he started running toward the other end. But the sun playing in the drizzle had created a beautiful rainbow, circle sharp increase in the alley and jump into the abyss. Then, as the sun dropped into the other side of the grave, the light turns golden cloud of fog.
The next day we walked to the bungee jump as close to Victoria Bridge, spanning the gap Gorgesfew second hundred meters downstream, linking Zimbabwe and Zambia. When we reached the entrance, 120 feet above the rocks and rapids of the Zambezi below, my knees are weak. How can it be called a friend of mine told me to throw myself into this bridge?
Feeling empty inside, I went to the jump platform in the middle of traffic indifferent African women carrying bundles on their heads. As the instructor attached to my teeth, they have directed the flow of discussions in the (stupid agrees) “victim” to them, to distract me from what will happen. I chose the gorge swing, so I left the structure, do not fall head first. “Look straight ahead, not down, and when you count to three, just walk,” they said.
One-two-three years, the land under the feet is lost, shout surprise, surprise, a few terrible seconds endless free fall, so I quietly rocking on a calm morning air, hanging just above boiling water green, away from the hearing as above. After I got up to the bridge, I was relieved to have passed first.
My friend was almost in tears as the instructor gently pushed into the void. He cried the whole time. Soar. Down, still crying. Then he vowed he would “never” be like the jumps, but it was too late – we both get our bragging rights in one of the most beautiful places in the natural world.
